National News

News about the nation is a broad term that encompasses events, issues or developments that affect an entire country and its people. National news stories are often the result of a combination of regional, local and international events. They may also focus on particular national institutions or organizations. The distinction between national and world news has been blurred in many countries as advances in telecommunications make it easier for reporters to travel overseas and report on global events.

A journalist who specializes in reporting on a specific country or region is called a correspondent. Correspondents are usually full-time employees of the news outlet they work for. They often live abroad and spend their time reporting on foreign politics, economics, military conflict, disaster and humanitarian crises, human interest stories or other events that are relevant to the news agenda of a nation.

NPR’s national news team covers the issues that matter to Americans, from the politics of daily life to the big questions facing our democracy and beyond. The team works to present facts without bias, and seeks to answer the questions that you want answered.
